You can sometimes find the most amazing people in a dark alley in Neenah. For example, this is one of my favorite model pictures from the past year. Why? Well, everything just worked!
The 50mm f/1.2L lens just nails this type of photo. Not a lot of space so I had to be close because the alley was only about 5 feet wide. There was also not a lot of light so I had to shoot pretty open. Because of the direction of the light I did use a small softbox and speedlight to the camera left. With the 50mm angle of view the framing is wonderful and I was able to place my model in the center of the frame. Near the center of the frame there is little to no distortion to be seen even though I was kind of close. Finally, the wonderful color capture from my Canon L series lens gives this picture great skin tones even in the “yellow” light!
